Veeam Backup & Replication v5.0からVeeam Backup & ReplicationはStandardとEnterprise Editionの2種類を提供する予定です。

VeeamはVMware vSphere用バックアップ／リストア製品を大幅に改善する技術セットであるSureBackupを3月22日に発表しました。SureBackupは1つの新機能の名前ではなく、「Veeam Backup＆Replication」の既存およびまもなく登場する機能を包括するものです。

SureBackupはESXホストが接続できるデータストアとしてバックアップ・ファイルのコンテンツを生成します。リカバリー検証中に自動で分離した環境でVMを作成し、バックアップから直接それらを起動させます。各VMを起動させ、OSをブートさせ、そしてすべてが通常通りに稼動していることを確認します。ユーザはアプリケーションが適正に機能していることと、データに欠損がないことを検証できます。

この新規技術のキーなコンポーネントは圧縮したバックアップ・ファイルから直接VMを起動できることです。バックアップを抽出することなく、バックアップからのVMの起動は高速で、追加のストレージを必要としません。最小減のホスト・リソースのみで、本番、テスト環境、さらにDR（ディザスタリ・リカバリ）サイトでも現状のマシンで提供することができます。

マイクロソフトがWindows Server 2003やXPから提供している「Volume Shadow Service」（VSS）技術は、Windows仮想マシン保護時のリスク低減に役立ちますが、それを効果的に動作させるには、それがOS内部で動作するアプリケーションによってサポートされている必要があります。
